FAQ

Q: How far away should I stand from my impact screen?
A: For the safety of both the golfer and the screen, we recommend standing a minimum of 10-12 feet away from the screen.

Q: Can I iron or steam a golf impact screen?
A: We do not recommend ironing your golf screen, as it's easy to damage the material. To avoid wrinkles, unpack your screen immediately upon arrival and fold it loosely if you need to store it. Most wrinkles will smooth out naturally when the screen is mounted with tension using zip ties or ball bungees. If needed, you can carefully use a clean, consumer-grade steamer with distilled water to help remove wrinkles without leaving water marks.

Q: Can I wash my golf screen material?
A: For cleaning tips and best practices, check out our article on 'How to Clean Your Golf Impact Screen'.

Q: Are there safety concerns when using a golf simulator?
A: Safety is a priority with any indoor golf setup. Follow the assembly manual provided with your enclosure, keep children, pets, and spectators out of swing range, and protect nearby walls, ceilings, and windows. Always review the Terms of Sale when using Carl’s Place products.

Q: Do I need to use a golf hitting mat?
A: Yes, a golf hitting mat provides a cushioned surface to protect your joints and allows for more realistic practice. When choosing a mat size, consider your stance and whether you need space for both right-handed and left-handed golfers. Sizes like 4’x5’ work for most golfers, while 5’x7’ or larger mats offer more flexibility.

Q: What is the difference between Carl’s Enclosure Kits?
A: Carl’s DIY Golf Enclosure Kit offers a simple, budget-friendly way to create a safe golf simulator space. The Pro Golf Enclosure Kit offers premium materials, larger sizes, and extra safety features, ideal for commercial setups. The Curved Golf Enclosure Kit adds an immersive curved screen for a panoramic playing experience. For a full comparison, check out our 'DIY vs. Pro' article.

Q: How big is the enclosure?
A: For Carl's Place DIY Enclosure Kits, we recommend you give yourself an absolute minimum of 2-3 inches buffer space from the height you have available. For width, subtract 4-6 inches from your available space to allow 2-3 inches of clearance on each side. Keep in mind that C-Series enclosures include a rear backset fitting that adds 8.25 inches to the depth, creating a built-in buffer for safety.

Carl's Place C-Series DIY Golf Simulator Enclosure Kit with Impact Screen dimensions.
Carl's Place DIY Golf Simulator Enclosure Kit with Impact Screen buffer space.
Q: How much space do I need for the enclosure?
A: When planning your simulator space, consider several factors including buffer space around walls and ceilings, enclosure footprint, safe golfer distance (10-12 feet from the screen), golfer height, club length, turf thickness, and any nearby furniture or doorways. Our 'Measuring Your Space for an Indoor Golf Simulator' article offers complete guidelines.

Q: What if the black enclosure material gets hit with a golf ball?
A: The black enclosure material isn’t designed to take direct hits, but if a ball bounces off the impact screen and hits the enclosure, you should not experience any issues.

Q: What pipes do I need to construct the enclosure kit frame?
A: DIY Enclosures require 1-inch EMT (Electrical Metal Tubing). You can either add a pre-cut Pipe Framing Kit to your order or source EMT locally. Pro and Curved Enclosures require 2-inch EMT, which can be harder to find, so make sure you have a reliable source if you choose not to order the framing kit.

Q: How long does it take to assemble the enclosure?
A: Assembly time for DIY Golf Simulator Enclosure Kits is about an hour, depending on size and whether you have a helper. For guidance, refer to our assembly video and manual.

Q: What are EMT pipes?
A: EMT stands for Electrical Metal Tubing (also called Electrical Metal Conduit). These metal pipes form the frame of your enclosure. Be sure to use EMT, not PVC, which is incompatible with our fittings.

Q: Where and how should I mount my projector?
A: Projector placement depends on its specifications. Use our screen size calculator to find the best mounting distance. Common mounting options include ceiling mounts (flush or drop), frame mounts on Pro Enclosures, or floor placement inside the enclosure with a protective cover.

Q: How do the ball bungees work?
A: Ball bungees secure the screen to the frame alongside reusable zip ties. To attach, thread the looped end through a grommet from the back of the screen, pull the cord over the frame, and secure it by hooking the cord over the ball.
