Maximize Performance Without Overcomplicating Your Setup: Shop Normal Throw Projectors at Indoor Golf Outlet!

Bringing a golf simulator into your home or business is a dream come true. You can practice more, entertain friends and family, and extend the playing season all the way through winter so you show up on opening day already dialed in.

But you need more than just a golf launch monitor and a hitting mat to make the most of your space (and your investment, for that matter). You need the right golf simulator projector. This is something so many of our customers struggle to navigate.

You want a crisp image, realistic visuals, and smooth motion. The entire experience takes a hit if your projector can’t keep up. But it’s easy to get overwhelmed with so many different styles on the market - from short throw projectors for golf simulators to ultra-short throw projectors, ceiling mounted, floor mounted - which is right for you?

Don’t play the guessing game or let stress steal the fun of building out your simulator. The selection of normal throw projectors we’ve curated here at Indoor Golf Outlet is perfect for most simulator bays and garage builds.

We’ve handpicked the best brands and their most sought-after models. They typically require 10-17 feet of distance from your impact screen, great for setups with ample space. Most commonly, we see normal throw projectors used in rooms that are designed for dual purpose, think rooms that are being used for golf simulation and to watch sports and movies where there is a dedicated seating area.

They tend to cost less than their short throw counterparts and you get more freedom with placement, image sizing, and zoom features. They're also less likely to create hotspot issues that can ruin immersion. With that being said, short throw projectors are still the most commonly used for rooms that are purely used for golf simulation.

Whether you're aiming for budget-friendly or pro-grade, we help you find the best fit - not push you into what’s trendy. Get in touch today for one-on-one support. You’ll also enjoy fast and free shipping on most orders so you can start enjoying your new setup ASAP!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a normal throw projector?

Sometimes called standard throw projectors, these need a bit more distance between the projector and the screen to display a large image. That typically means 15-25 feet away from the screen. So, they work best in spaces with ample room to mount the projector behind or above the hitting area. We commonly see normal throw projectors used in rooms that are being used for golf simulation and to watch sports and movies.

What is the average throw ratio of a normal throw projector?

The average throw ratio of a standard projector is around 1.5-2.5:1. That means for every foot of image width, you’ll need 1.5 to 2.5 feet of distance.

So if you want a 10-foot-wide image, expect to mount the projector 15-25 feet back. This can get pretty complicated, so don’t hesitate to reach out for personalized support picking the right projector.

Can you use a normal projector for a golf simulator?

As long as your space allows for it, yes! Keep in mind, with a normal throw projector it will end up being mounted farther away from the screen compared to a short throw projector. You will want to make sure the projector lens is mounted no farther than 3-5 feet behind the hitting area, or the likelihood of casting a shadow on the screen greatly increases. As a general rule, we recommend for the projector lens to be mounted 1-3 feet behind the hitting area.

Are normal throw or short throw projectors used most commonly for golf simulators?

For the vast majority of golf simulator setups (even those used for dual purpose) we typically find that short throw projectors are more commonly used compared to normal throw projectors. Both screen size and the distance that the golfer is hitting from the impact screen plays the biggest role in making short throw projectors the preferred choice for golf simulator setups. Again, as a general rule, we typically find that mounting the projector 1-3 feet behind the hitting area is the optimal mounting location to keep the projector out of the golfer's eyesight and swing radius while also reducing the likelihood of casting shadows on the screen.
